This majestic Camel Thorn Tree is found at Gamagara Safari Lodge. A little bit of history is that the town close to us, called Kathu, was built in a forest of these trees and none have been removed without permission from the Environmental Conservation Department.
This tree specie became an endangered specie in 1941 and is still in place today.
The pods when fallen off the tree are eaten by Rhino, Eland, Elephant, Gemsbok and Kudu, which provide good nutrition during dry seasons.
The Setswana name for this tree is the Mocala tree.
